Vintage Mexican Tonala Hanging Wall Plate Burnished Ceramic Pottery with Black Lizard Design Made in Mexico Clay Folk Art
This great old Mexican Tonala plate is 10" in diameter and 1.5" deep. It is a clay piece and has a wonderful geometric design around the rim, and a black lizard design in the center. The border is accented with a detailed geometric pattern that repeats all of the way around the border. The painting is done in subtle and natural colors of gray, white, and a deep, rusty pinkish-red color. The back of the plate has an opening for a hanger on the top. The back of the plate has an original label that is marked MADE IN MEXICO.
The plate is in very good condition with no chips or cracks. There are some slight nicks and scratches here and here. Please see photos closely for condition - this is a really nice piece but does have little areas of paint loss here and there. Great old Tonala plate!
