Vintage DANFORTH POTTERY Walrus Figurine Signed Caroline Dean Danforth 1960s Modernist Montana Pottery
This wonderful walrus figurine by Caroline Danforth is 5.5" tall and 4" in diameter. It is a brown stoneware piece, and has a dark gray/green glaze on the entire piece. The walrus is accented with round brown eyes, and two white tusks on the front. The back of the figurine is plain, and the inside is signed DANFORTH.
Caroline Danforth, from Great Falls, Montana, was an accomplished artist and in the 1960s Caroline began making stoneware pottery in the form of whimsical, fanciful "pot people", birds and animals. Working together, Caroline and her husband Dean produced stoneware popular with specialty shops and galleries throughout the Northwest. Representative pieces are in the permanent collections of the Russell Museum in Great Falls, the Montana Institute of the Arts in Bozeman, and the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C.
The figurine is in very good condition with no chips or cracks. Great pottery animal by Caroline Danforth!
